PURPOSE
I have created this website as a place to foster other creative types. At the age of six I wrote my first poem, but it took me a long time to take myself seriously as a writer. I hope these pages are of use to anyone who has similarly hesitated in taking that next step forward, as well as to those seeking inspiration, support, or a new perspective. This space is where I will offer up ideas, post updates, and engage in storytelling – mostly of the non-fiction variety. My goal is not only to embrace life, share stories, and build community, but to encourage others to follow the same call and pursue their own unique passions.
PERSONAL
I have been the fortunate recipient of a number of honours, but occasionally cover myself in bees to ensure a measure of humility. I have a life list – not a bucket list – since planning fatalistically is a paradox I cannot accept, and I have already checked off participating in a scientific flensing, getting married by Elvis, and frolicking on a clothing-optional beach. I love stories, tell bad jokes, and am constantly on the lookout for the next adventure or wringing one from the fabric of existence with my bare hands. I live in a messy Edwardian house with a hilariously curious Lilliputian, a kilt-wearing swordsman, and four furry ninjas.
PROFESSIONAL
I am currently serving as the literary Artist-in-Residence for the City of Port Coquitlam, where I run writing sessions and workshops at The Outlet’s AiR Studio. I am the Blog Content Manager and Editor for Joanne Fedler Media and pen reviews for Western Sky Books; I am also a regular reader at literary events and co-facilitate the Leigh Square Writers Group. In a personal essay published in The Globe & Mail, I coined the term ‘bairnlorn’, a word denoting experiences with infertility. I am exploring this topic in detail as I composes my memoir, Re: Birth.
PERMISSIONS
I ask that you utilize this content respectfully. I own the copyright in the written material on these pages, but I publish it here to encourage the exchange of ideas, so please credit me if you are sharing my writing.
